Lawyer Robert Regular Not Guilty of Sexual Assault Charges

A longtime C.B.S. lawyer and businessman has been cleared of sexual assault charges.

Seventy-two-year-old Robert Regular was found not guilty today in Supreme Court of the five charges he was facing: four counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference, all alleged by one woman when she was between 12 and 15, and later as a young adult.

The case turned on the credibility of the complainant, now in her 30s, with the judge citing a lack of cohesion and numerous “troubling” inconsistencies in her testimony.

Court heard the woman was raised by abusive adults, sexually assaulted by her own brother, and was a drug user, which she conceded may have impaired her memory.

Court also heard that she previously made false allegations of sexual assault against an RNC officer, which had caused SIRT-NL to be called in.

By contrast, the judge said Regular was straightforward and consistent throughout his evidence.

The woman and her family had been clients of Regular for about a dozen years dating back over two decades, when the incidents were said to have occurred.

Regular had asked for a publication ban on his name before the trial started, but that was denied by the court.
