Lara Diaz Zayas signs with Eastern Michigan Tennis – Eastern Michigan University Athletics

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis program has added Lara Diaz Zayas to the 2024-25 roster, Head Coach Ryan Kucera announced Tuesday, May 29. The fourth signing in the class, Diaz Zayas comes to Ypsilanti from Mar De Ajo, Argentina, where she ranked first in the Buenos Aires province.

“We are so excited for the addition of Lara to the Eastern Tennis Family,” Kucera said. “Her resume speaks for itself; she has competed at the highest level and achieved pro success at a young age. As a player, Lara is a fierce competitor who has a diverse skill set and a nice feel for the game. More importantly though, she’s an awesome young woman with a love for tennis, a great spirit, and a strong desire to be great. She will fit in well here and I look forward to her contributions on and off the court!”

Diaz Zayas (Mar De Ajo, Argentina/SEADEA) carries a professional ranking of No. 11 in Argentina and ranks first in the Buenos Aires province. A member of the Division 1 of interclubs of the Argentine Tennis Association (AAT), she advanced to the semifinals of the doubles tournament at the 2023 W15 Córdoba event. With a high Universal Tennis Ranking (UTR) of 9.22, Diaz Zayas has been ranked as high as No. 1,394 in the WTA, No. 185 in the ITF Pro Singles Rankings, and No. 1,484 in the WTA Doubles Rankings during her career.

Diaz Zayas is the fourth newcomer Kucera has added for next year’s roster as she joins Iva Daneva (Kavadarci, North Macedonia/DSU Sportska Akademija) and Viktorie Hazmukova (Skvorec, Czechia/Skoly Brezova), who signed National Letters of Intent in November, and Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland/Sopocka (Sopot) Tennis Academy/Wayne State), who announced in April her intention to transfer into the program from nearby Wayne State University. Komar, who will be a senior at EMU, was recently named the ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award winner for the NCAA Division II Midwest Region after helping her team to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
