Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) is holding its second “Paws on the Green” fundraiser at the Fort Langley Golf Course on Thursday, June 27.
The event combines golfing and snuggles with some of the shelter’s adoptable animals, and will include lunch, snacks, and a barbecue dinner.
All funds support animals at LAPS and its service support programs, said Kelsi Sutton, director of development, including the pet food bank and Major’s legacy fund.
“We would not be able to provide these much needed services to families in Langley without our amazing donors and supporters,” she said.
The goal is to raise $70,000 from this year’s tournament, LAPS hoping to double the funds raised at the first event of $43,000.
“Our ultimate goal at LAPS is to keep families together, and that includes pets,” Sutton said.
The success of the inaugural event spoke volumes last year about the community’s commitment to animal welfare, Sarah Jones said, executive director.
“We have seen more animals abandoned than ever before and LAPS programs aim to address both human and animal struggles,” she noted.
She elaborated that right now the shelter is beyond capacity with animals, and more animals are coming in daily and even more people are calling to surrender.
The tournament starts at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. Tickets can be purchased online at lapsbc.ca.
