Lanzarote is a new golfing destination
For the third consecutive year Atalayar had in Pedro González its representative in the Media Cup by Grand Teguise Playa, prelude to the XII Lanzarote Golf Tour AESGOLF, one of the most important Senior amateur circuits in Spain.
Both tournaments, in the words of Juan Monzón, Sports Councillor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, ‘represent an important promotion of the island as a golf destination’. To this end, in addition to the two existing courses on the island, he unveiled the project for a third course in Playa Blanca, which will significantly increase the sporting offer.
The presence of twenty-five journalists from national and international media at the competition, including Atalayar, was welcomed by Olivia Duque, mayoress of Teguise, the cultural capital of Lanzarote, as an opportunity to convey ‘how lucky we are to have enterprising businessmen who we have been supporting for years, because we all benefit from them, as they bring wealth and tourism’.
Javier Roura, manager of AESGOLF, detailed the six men’s and three women’s tournaments that make up the twelfth edition of this seniors’ tournament, a league that will conclude in December with the Grand Final in Lanzarote. Roura thanked all those involved in this project, especially Adolfo De la Rúa, general manager of the Hotel Grand Teguise Playa, for having placed his trust in a project born in 2010.
De la Rúa himself, who shared the last match with Atalayar, was one of the members of the Spanish team that recently beat Morocco in Seville. Commenting on that match, he was delighted and eager to return the visit, a match that will be played on Moroccan soil in 2026 under the Ryder Cup format. He also noted his interest in increasing the mutual reception of golf tourism with Moroccan fans and undertake joint actions and actions that result in a greater flow of visitors of this quality tourism.
For the statistics, it should be noted that Pedro González, paired with Adrián Badenes, director of Lanzarote Golf, was the winner of the second day. A partial victory was not enough, as the absolute winning pair was formed by Elena Jiménez, from RTVE, and Jesús Márquez, from Canal Sur.
