Klay Thompson to Mavs in 1st-Ever NBA 6-Team Sign-and-Trade; Warriors Get Buddy Hield
Klay Thompson’s journey to the Dallas Mavericks is official.
The Mavericks announced Saturday that Thompson has been included in a six-team sign-and-trade from the Golden State Warriors. The deal also includes the Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Thompson signed a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavericks after spending 13 seasons with the Warriors.
Thompson’s tenure with the Golden State Warriors was a very successful one, to say the least. He was named to five All-Star teams and helped lead the Warriors to four NBA Championships.
He averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 77 games for Golden State in 2023-24. He will join a Mavericks team that reached the NBA Finals but fell in five games to the Boston Celtics.
As he prepares to enter the next stage of his career, his former team will look to retool the roster. Adding Hield and Anderson starts that process, and the Warriors hope Steph Curry can build chemistry with a changed core.
