Police surround townhome

There’s a heavy police presence in Rutland on Saturday afternoon, as Kelowna RCMP have surrounded a complex on Franklyn Road and arrested one individual.

Julie Boone, who is just a few doors down from the action, told Castanet an officer knocked on her door this afternoon around 4 p.m. telling her to stay inside.

“We’re not all allowed out, they came to the door and this big cop with a giant assault rifle saying, ‘There’s something going on somewhere around here,'” she said, noting they heard nothing before that.

The incident is near the blaze that occurred at a townhome on Houghton Road on Friday night.

Soon, Boone said the cops were aiming the guns at the door and were behind a pickup truck.

“They’re concentrating on something. They’re not moving. Oh, there’s more sirens. Something’s going down,” she told Castanet while watching the incident unfold.

“I’m used to seeing this stuff around here, but actually to have it happen at your own complex, it’s a little unnerving.”

After that, Boone said she saw the police arrest one man in handcuffs. A K9 unit and fire crews have also arrived on scene.

Castanet has reached out to the RCMP for more information.
