Job Corps discusses most popular trades being taught, welcomes high school grads

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – With it being graduation season, a lot of young people will be entering the job market. And it is a market, with a lot of opportunity.

“It is a great time historically to be looking for jobs because so many employers are looking for employees,” explained Leslie Mix of Sierra Nevada Job Corps Center.

And Mix says there are a number of trades that are popular and in demand.

“Construction, cement, plastering. We have a CNA program. We just added an advanced manufacturing program. Security, we have expanded that program, so there is a variety of jobs that people are really looking for workers in,” Mix said.

And with regards to getting hired, Mix says the simple things go a long way with employers these days.

“Some of the things that work force looks for are soft skills,” she said. “Don’t sit on your phone. Be on time. The harder you work the better you are going to do.”

And if any young people you know are in the position of needing to get their career up and running, Mix says it is a great time to join the 370 students already in the program.

“If anyone knows anyone 16-24 that wants to get involved in a trade, do things with their hands, have a successful career, have a successful life, have them sign up.”
