Jimmy Fallon faces off with DJ Khaled at ACC celebrity golf

STATELINE, Nev. — Two more celebrities, who are not part of the tournament field, will also be golfing at Edgewood Tahoe on Saturday.

Jimmy Fallon will play DJ Khaled in a four-hole exhibition on Saturday afternoon at the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe.

Fallon and Khaled filmed a promo for the event, which is part of a larger TV special that will air later this year.

Fallon, the host of ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ and Grammy-nominated producer and record executive DJ Khaled will go head-to-head in the special challenge golf match. They faced off on Friday at Edgewood, then traded barbs for a few minutes.

Fallon said he has been trying to do a golf-related special in conjunction with the ACC for a long time.

“I love golf. We always want to do something. NBC does a great job. This is one of the biggest weekends in golf out here at Lake Tahoe at Edgewood, American Century Championship. It’s always great,” Fallon said. “And even though I’ve never been invited, it’s fine. I’m happy to be here.”

He challenged Khaled who quickly accepted.

“When Fallon hit me up and called me out on the Fallon show, with trillions of people watching, you know, I had no choice to represent, but I’ve always been a fan of this weekend,” Khaled said.

They are calling it the ‘Cardigan Classic’ with the winner receiving a red cardigan sweater.

Fallon said they are planning to lower the ropes so fans can walk alongside the pair down the fairways on the holes.

Fallon vs. Khaled will be held on on the par-3 17th hole at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course and will be a four-hole match (holes 17 and 18 twice), with the winner receiving a special red cardigan and bragging rights. The match will take place following the conclusion of Saturday’s third round at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The special challenge match will be open to the public.

Khaled, who started playing golf during the pandemic, said life is like golf.”

“You catch the bug and then it turned into where this is what I want to do every day. So it’s part of my lifestyle. It’s part of my schedule. It makes me happy,” he said. “Life is like golf. It’s not easy, but it’s beautiful.

“You can have fun, but let’s keep it real. When you’re with the fellas and your brothers and sisters and you’re playing golf, you gotta be competitive on the golf course, laugh, have fun. You hit some good strokes. You don’t hit some. But either way, you know, we’ve got to be competitive and see who wins each match every day, that’s how I play golf.”
