Jays Lose To Guardians
Guardians 3 Jays 1
I’ve written the same recap so many times this year.
Starting pitcher “X” (Kevin Gausman this time) was good, went 6 innings (well, 5.1 runs tonight), and allowed 3 runs. I guess, in this case, ‘good’ is overstating it. He was ok, and if he had pitched for a team that could score, it would have been enough.
The bullpen was good. A bunch of guys pitched an inningish each. This time it was Genesis Cabrera (1.2 perfect, 1 k), Brendon Little (1.1 scoreless) and Zach Pop (0.2 perfect).
Yet we lost because we couldn’t hit, scoring about one run (well, one run exactly this time) on almost no hits (three tonight).
Tonight’s run came in the sixth inning. Ernie Clement led off with a double, and Davis Schneider singled him home. But then Danny Jansen ground out, Vlad Guerrero struck out, and Bo Bichette ground out.
Clement had two hits, and obviously, Schneider had the other. Everyone else was 0 for.
You don’t need AI to write this, even AI would be bored with writing the same recap every game. Every game. Every game.
It is pretty much Groundhog Day. Other than even Bill Murray couldn’t turn this into anything funny.
There was some nice defense. Bo made a nice barehanded grab and throw.
Jay of the Day: Clement (.118 WPA).
The Other Award: Turner (-.155, 0 for 4, 2 k), Jansen (-.125, 0 for 4, k), Gausman (-.097), and IKF (-.092 0 for 2, walk).
Tomorrow, we have a 3:00 Eastern start. TBD starts for the Jays (it will likely be Francis Bowden doing the bulk work, but someone might be the opener). Carlos Carrasco (2-5, 5.50 will pitch 6 scoreless innings for the Gaurdians).
At one time, I worked to make each recap a little different. I would pick something out of the game and write about it. This season, it is all one beige. Maybe occasionally, the beige is a little darker or a little lighter, but it is always beige. Every game is beige.
On the plus side, I rode my bike 70k today, and when I get to 70, I know I can go 100k for the MS ride. But on Sunday, I’d like to get to 100k and then just do some shorter rides in the week leading up to the weekend of riding. I haven’t been riding enough this year, but I think I’m in the best shape I’ve been in years. Of course, biking shape is a little different than squash shape.
On the plus side, I’ve raised about $2500 for the MS Society of Canada because I have great and generous friends.
