Jays Hit Three Home Runs, And Win

Blue Jays 5 White Sox 1

A WIN!

We should celebrate each win because they are few and far between this season.

Chris Bassitt had neck spasms, so the team didn’t think he would be able to start earlier this morning. Yet he battled through five shutout innings. He allowed five hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts, all without being able to use his normal windup.

He couldn’t throw as hard as normal, and he didn’t have the break on his pitches that he normally does, but he gutted it out.

Nate Pearson threw two shutout innings with 1 hit and 2 strikeouts. I think they need to avoid using him two days in a row (which is tough, I know).

Erik Swanson had trouble giving up a solo homer and another hit while getting just one out.

Zach got the last two outs of the eighth, allowing a hit. And Genesis Cabrera gave up a hit and a walk just to get my blood pressure up before getting a double play (nicely started by Isiah Kiner-Falefa) and a ground out to end the game.

And the offense managed three home runs:

  • George Springer hit his fourth of the season, a two-run shot, in the second.
  • Bo Bichette hit his fourth of the season, a solo homer, in the fourth inning.
  • And Davis Schneider hit his sixth of the season, a two-run homer, in the ninth. That gave us needed insurance runs, allowing the Jays to rest Yimi Garcia, who would have come in if it was a save situation, even after throwing 26 pitches yesterday in a rare bad appearance.

We only had three other hits and 6 walks.

Jays of the Day: Bassitt (.266 WPA), Springer (.196), Pearson (.113) and Pearson (.100).

Other Award: Erik Swanson (-.089), Vlad (-.084 for an 0 for 3, walk) and Jansen (-.080, 0 for 5, k).

Tomorrow we are back to night games, 7:30 Eastern start. Kevin Gausman (3-3, 4.47) vs. Mike Clevinger (0-3, 6.75).
