Jannik Sinner talks about his tough tournament in Halle – Tennis Tonic – News, Predictions, H2H, Live Scores, stats
Jannik Sinner advanced to the semi-finals of the Halle grass-court competition on Friday despite an explosion of serves from Jan-Lennard Struff. Despite serving up eighteen aces and saving sixteen of eighteen breakpoints, Germany’s Struff lost to the Italian in straight sets, 6-2, 6-7 (1/7), and 7-6 (7/3).
Sinner will compete against Christopher Eubanks of the United States or Zhang Zhizhen of China to advance to the competition final, which serves as an important warmup to Wimbledon, which begins on July 1.
Sinner acknowledged that it was a very tough tournament in Halle. He expressed his thoughts about it in the post-match press conference and said: “It was a very tough match. I had chances in the second, had chances in the third, but couldn’t use them. It was 0/40 [in the first game of the third set]. I just try to accept these kind of challenges. Obviously, it has been very tough, also mentally.”
He added: “I’m very pleased to be in the next round, I played a lot yesterday, and I played a lot also today — two and a half hours on grass, it’s a long time. I’ll try to recover for tomorrow and hopefully show some good tennis.”
