A Super Over is a form of excting tie-breaker in cricket that which comes into play when both teams score the same amount of runs in their respective innings. 

T20 cricket is all about excitement and when the game comes down to the final ball, the excitement increases.

What are the rules of the Super Over in T20 World Cup?

Here is how the Super Over works in cricket.

  1. When the scores are tied, the Super Over will begin.
  2. Ten minutes after the second innings ends, the Super Over should begin.
  3. In the Super Over, the team that batted second in the regular game bats first, and the bowling team selects the end from which to start.
  4. Each team will choose three batsmen, and if two of them are dismissed at any point during the Super Over, the innings will be over.
  5. A second Super Over will be played if the game ends in a tie in the Super Over. An unlimited number of Super Overs will take place till a winner is determined. 

When did the first-ever T20 World Cup Super Over take place?

The first-ever Super Over in the T20 World Cup took place in the 2012 T20 World Cup when Sri Lanka took on New Zealand at Pallekele.

There have been only three Super Overs in T20 World Cup history, with two of them coming in 2012. The latest was the game between Namibia and Oman in 2024, during the group stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
