Inzamam-ul-Haq, Who Once Nearly Hit A Fan With Cricket Bat, Reacts To Haris Rauf’s Fight Video.
Former Pakistan captain Inzamam Ul Haq has weighed in on the recent altercation involving fast bowler Haris Rauf and a fan in the United States. While acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, Inzamam called for empathy for the player.
Inzamam was once involved in a shocking incident in 1997 when he tried to hit a spectator during the Sahara Cup between India and Pakistan in Toronto. It was later revealed that the fan was teasing him by calling him ‘Aalo’ (Potato). In the case of Rauf, the former Pakistan captain offered a more nuanced perspective on the situation.
“It was a very unpleasant incident, and I heard quotes that it all stemmed from the fan asking for a photo, but Rauf denied the request. He was with his family then, and it was not a big deal if he denied the request,” the 54-year-old said.
“But the point is that he was with his wife at that moment, and if something had been said to his family, then we must all remember that Haris Rauf is a human being with emotions. Just because they have lost games does not mean life is over. Fans must realise this and keep their morals intact. Even if he refuses to click photos, it is not a crime. If Rauf had reacted that way, then there must have been something that irked him,” he added while speaking on his YouTube channel.
Inzamam’s message underscores the urgent need for a healthy environment in cricket to flourish. He urged fans to avoid personal attacks and insults while also calling on players to maintain their composure in the face of provocation.
Rauf has issued a statement on X on the incident.
“I decided to not bring this on social media, but now that the video is out, I feel it is necessary to address the situation,” Rauf wrote.
“As public figures, we are open to receiving all kinds of feedback from the public. They are entitled to support or criticize us. Nevertheless, when it comes to my parent and my family, I will not hesitate to respond accordingly. “It is important to show respect towards people and their families, irrespective of their professions,” he added.
In the clip that went viral, Rauf is seen walking alongside his wife as he bumps into a group of people. While the words exchanged aren’t audible in the video, they make the pacer lose his cool and rush towards one of the individuals.
Pakistan cricketers like Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan have also voiced support for Rauf.
