IND vs SA highlights, T20 World Cup 2024 Final: Virat Kohli announces T20Is retirement after winning

India were crowned the champions of the world for the second time in T20 format as they beat South Africa by 7 runs in the final of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday, June 29. 

Chasing 177 to win, Proteas were at one stage 147/4, needing 30 off 30 balls to win the match, but once again choked in the final moments as Jasprit Bumrah tightened the noose with his last two overs, Hardik Pandya then removed Klaasen and defended 16 in 15 in the final over. He got David Miller out off the first ball as Suryakumar Yadav took a stunner at the straight boundary. 

Earlier India posted 176/7 after Virat Kohli played a gem of an innings (76 off 59 balls) against South Africa in the grand finale of the ICC  tonight. He was ably supported by Axar Patel (47) and Shivam Dube (27). For the Proteas, Maharaj and Nortje got two wickets each. 

Earlier India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first.

Both the teams have played magnificent cricket and remained unbeaten in the tournament ahead of the final. This was the first-ever senior men’s final for South Africa in an ICC World Cup event after tasting failure in seven attempts in both the T20 and ODI World Cups combined. India has not had the taste of success in an ICC event since 2013 and this match might end the wait of millions of supporters back home as well as the trophy drought.
