“I never thought we would be playing cricket in the United States of America”: Virat Kohli

The USA is the co-host of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Along with the West Indies, the United States of America is hosting the global event of the shortest format for the first time. The ICC is aiming to make cricket popular in America, and the event is crucial for creating awareness about the sport in the country. Virat Kohli will also play a significant role in promoting the game in the States, as cricket will also be played in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

Kohli talked about playing cricket in the USA. According to him, he never thought that he would be competing in a game in the States and hailed the country for accepting a new sport.

“I never thought we would be playing cricket in the States. But that’s a reality and shows the growing impact of the game in the world. The United States is willing to accept the change and is the first one to accept it,” Kohli said.

“I think it is a great start. It is going to have a big impact. I hope it carries on for a long time,” the 35-year-old added.

Kohli further said that with tournaments like Major League Cricket, cricket can grow in the country.

“We have enough people from our region to keep the game alive over here. I think Major League Cricket will also help in this regard. It is moving on the right direction,” he concluded.
