Hudson’s Bay in Victoria reopens following several days of closures

Hudson’s Bay in Victoria has reopened after the company closed its doors due to issues with its HVAC system.

The department store had been closed for several days, leaving signage that it was experiencing maintenance issues.

On Wednesday, the company said that extreme temperatures caused a strain on its HVAC systems.

“The comfort and well-being of customers and associates remains our top priority. As the situation is fluid, signage will be posted at individual store level,” said Tiffany Bourne, vice president of corporate communications.

Several locations across Canada experienced the same issue as the heatwave rolled into Western Canada. Vancouver, West Vancouver, Prince George, Coquitlam, as well as two locations in Manitoba, and one in Ontario also closed their doors.

Hudson’s Bay at Mayfair Mall was not affected by the closure, according to the company.

Nanaimo’s Woodgrove location has been operating at reduced hours and closed early on Wednesday.

B.C. faced soaring temperatures with some areas experiencing over 40°C in some parts. On Tuesday, 37 daily heat records were broken.
