How much prize money did Robert MacIntyre win at the 2024 Canadian Open?

Robert MacIntyre has become a fan favourite during the three sunny days in Canada while we’ve been enjoying the Open. He sat at the top of the standings on the final day of the championship, with Mackenzie Hughes and Tom Kim completing the podium. And in the end it was indeed MacIntyre who took home the title, finishing on 16 under, one ahead of Benjamin Griffin.

MacIntyre picks up a cheque for $1.692 million.

A potential hometown win for Hughes had been on everyone’s mind, with the golfer acknowledging the support: “I never get cheered for like this or really ever, because when I’m playing in the U.S., I mean, I’m pretty much a nobody, so being here at home you feel like they’re really pulling you across the line”.

I made a putt on 10 and it was just like, it was like chills. The putt went in, the crowd went nuts, and just some of those moments and things I felt I’m remember for a long time. I know tomorrow will be even more special and hopefully we can put up a low one.”

Rory McIlroy looked for success on the final day

Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy also went into the final day with a point to prove after putting himself back into contention with a 65, taking his overall scorecard to seven under.

There are still some low scores out there,” admitted McIlroy ahead of the action. “It felt like it could’ve been better but I got myself back into the tournament and hopefully within touching distance of the guys going into tomorrow.”

How much is the total purse for the RBC Canadian?

Compared to last year, the PGA Tour has bumped up the RBC Canadian Open’s prize purse by $400,000. In 2023, Nick Taylor pocketed a cool $1.62 million from the $9 million prize money.

However, this time round, the RBC Canadian Open purse sits at $9.4 million, meaning the winner’s reward has also jumped up. As well as as the pocket-filling, the winner will also receive 500 FedExCup points and 43.79569 Official World Golf Rankings points.

For context, that figure is nearly $7m more than the $2.5m being offered at the other big golf tournament going on this week, the DP World Tour’s European Open.
