HOAX: This post advertising jobs at TotalEnergies Kenya is a scam
This Facebook post with a form advertising jobs at TotalEnergies Kenya and asking applicants to pay a registration fee is a HOAX.
The author claims there are vacancies for petrol station pump attendants with competitive pay and career growth. Interested applicants are asked to apply using the link provided.
Accompanying the post is a poster for the supposed advertisement bearing the TotalEnergies logo and the link.
The job advertisement has also been shared here.
On clicking the link, users are redirected to a Microsoft Office form with a brief introduction to TotalEnergies and vacancies available within the organisation.
The form then lists the jobs available, the number of vacancies, salaries, and application procedure which is timed. The jobs listed are fuel pump attendants, car wash attendants, auto service mechanics and drivers totalling 469 open positions.
The form then asks for applicants’ names, email addresses, phone numbers, date of birth, years of experience, level of education, preferred Total service station location and payment details for their salaries. The applicants can choose to provide either their mobile money or bank account details.
After filling in these details, applicants are notified of a mandatory registration fee of KSh99 to verify details such as names and phone numbers. This amount, paid to a till number provided, is supposedly refundable for applicants who do not qualify.
However, applications that require interested applicants to pay a fee are suspicious, prompting an investigation.
Firstly, PesaCheck checked the till number’s details and discovered that it was registered to an individual, and not a business, which is unlikely for a corporation such as TotalEnergies.
PesaCheck also reviewed TotalEnergies Kenya’s Facebook page and X (formerly Twitter) account to check for the supposed jobs and found no such jobs.
In response to a job enquiry on a post on TotalEnergies Kenya’s Facebook page, the organisation directed job seekers interested in working at petrol stations to inquire at the stations themselves, directing those seeking jobs at its head office to check their website.
A review of the website reveals that TotalEnergies Kenya has not advertised any of the positions under our scrutiny.
To access vacancies on the website, the site redirects to a careers portal on its parent website. There are no Kenya-based jobs listed as of 29 June 2024.
Additionally, a notice on the TotalEnergies Kenya website cautions job applicants against scammers, noting that it does not charge applicants any fees during the recruitment process nor ask for their financial details.
It urges users to not make any payments or disclose financial information, or respond to suspicious job offers.
Finally, PesaCheck previously debunked fake TotalEnergies Kenya job ads such as here and here, which established that legitimate jobs are posted on their official social media platforms and do not charge applicants any fee during the recruitment or selection process.
PesaCheck has looked into a Facebook post with a form advertising jobs at TotalEnergies Kenya and asking applicants to pay a registration fee and found it to be a HOAX.
