Highlighting the best: 2024 Patriot Ledger/Enterprise boys tennis All-Scholastics
The South Shore once again had a collection of strong high school boys tennis teams this spring.
Duxbury advanced to the Division 2 state final, and Hingham stood in its way with a Final Four appearance. BC High (Division 1), Cohasset (Division 4), Scituate (Division 2) and North Quincy (Division 2) were fellow local teams that also strung together multiple wins in the state tournament. BC High and Cohasset advanced to their respective divisions’ Elite Eights.
Each team mentioned is proudly represented by multiple All-Scholastic nominations in the list below. There are league MVPs, perennial All-Stars and student-athletes bound for high-profile universities when class rings back into session in the fall.
Here’s a final salute to the South Shore’s best boys tennis players from the 2024 spring season:
FIRST TEAM
LIAM ARNOLD
Hingham
Senior went 12-2 this season in both singles and doubles. … Finishes his career with a 28-3 record. … Went 4-0 in the state tournament at second doubles. … Led Hingham to the Division 2 Final Four. … Will attend Pursue University in the fall. … Also plays golf. … Said coach Eric Gill, “Liam is an all-around player who could compete with anyone in the league.”
TUCKER CATALANO and BENNETT STOUT
Duxbury
Senior and junior duo went 12-0 in doubles this spring. … Helped Duxbury advance to the Division 2 state final. … Catalano will attend Connecticut College next year.
CHRIS CURRAN
BC High
Junior has played No. 1 singles all three years for the Eagles. … Owned a 14-5 record this spring. … Highlights of the season were clinching victory over Wellesley in a third-set tiebreaker, plus wins against Winchester in the regular season and the Division 1 tournament. … Also participates in Model UN and the school’s marketing club. … Said coach Lance Hutchinson, “His influence on the tennis team and program has been enormous. Chris has played a key role in establishing a winning culture in the program.”
JACK DALICANDRO and SHEA TINKHAM
Scituate
Junior and sophomore duo went 14-2 against Patriot League competition this spring. … Duo led the Sailors to two Division 2 tournament wins en route to the Sweet Sixteen.
BEN DIPESA
Scituate
Senior was named Patriot League Fisher Division MVP. … Went 14-2 in league play. … Helped Scituate earn two wins in the Division 2 state tournament. … Will attend UMass Amherst to study political science and broadcasting.

Junior has been the Wildcats’ No. 1 singles player for three years. … This spring he repeated as the Bay State Conference Herget Division MVP. … Part-time coach and volunteer at Sportsmen’s Tennis and Enrichment Center in Dorchester. … Honor-roll student.
ANDREW GAROFOLI
BC High
Freshman had a record of 16-3 in the Eagles’ No. 2 spot. … Highlights of the season came in wins over Brookline, Wellesley and Winchester. … Also plays flag football. … Said coach Lance Hutchinson, “As a freshman Andrew has elevated the team to new heights.”
CHARLIE LANKOW
Cohasset
Senior was the team’s top singles player all four years of his high school career. … Went 16-3 and led the Skippers to the Division 4 quarterfinals. … Three-time South Shore League Player of the Year. … Class valedictorian. … Will attend Dartmouth College in the fall.

Hingham
Junior doubles player went 11-1 this season, and 4-0 in the state tournament, as Hingham advanced to the Division 2 Final Four. … Has an 18-3 career record. … Head of the Student Council Community Service Committee. … Member of the National Honors Society. … Said coach Eric Gill, “Evan has been a leader on the team for three years. He will make a great captain during the 2025 season.”

Duxbury
Junior went 16-3 this year. … Led Duxbury to the Division 2 state final. … Also plays golf. … Member of the investment club at Duxbury High. … Favorite memory of the season was the team’s regular season win over Brookline.

Junior went 10-4 in second singles this spring. … Also a member of the varsity Ski Team, student government, debate club, finance and investing Club and real estate club at Scituate High. … Favorite memory of the season was winning the team’s first Division 2 playoff match vs. Masconomet: “Great atmosphere and a great team victory,” he said.

Bridgewater-Raynham
Sophomore went 11-3 overall in first singles. … Named to the Southeast Conference All-Conference team. … Has a 21-7 career record. … Also plays soccer. … Said coach Daniel Cooley, “Banks is a remarkably talented tennis player you can always count on to do his best against any competitor.”
WILL BERGENDAHL
Plymouth North
Senior went 10-6 as the Eagles’ second singles player, and led the team to the state tournament. … Played both doubles, and first and second singles in his career. … Said coach Kesha Nielson, “Will is a model student-athlete, maintaining honors in all of his classes throughout his time at Plymouth North while giving everything he has on the tennis courts.”

Senior went 17-5 in third singles this spring. … Has been with the team for two years. … Will attend Wentworth Institute of Technology and major in biomedical engineering next year. … Coach Phi Nguyen said “he’s a captain on and off the court.”

Senior went 14-6 in first singles this season. … Four-year player. … Will study computer science and finance at Northeastern in the fall. … Also captain of the cross country team. … Teaches swimming at local YMCA. … Member of school band. … Coach Phi Nguyen described him as “one of the most committed tennis players.”
