Louisville doesn’t lack for gifted athletes in area high schools.

But who are the best athletes from local schools in recent decades? Using 247Sports‘ recruiting database, and its composite rankings, we look at the highest-rated boys basketball and football players from the area since rankings began, ending with the 2024 class; 247Sports’ football composite rankings date back to 2000, while its first composite rankings for boys basketball is 2003.

Note that only players who attended area high schools are included, not athletes born in Louisville who graduated elsewhere. (One example: Louisville native Kiyaunta Goodwin, a 4-star recruit in 2022 who graduated from Charlestown High in Charlestown, Indiana, was not considered for this list.)
