Here’s how the Marvel vs. Capcom character select screen evolved over the course of two decades

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, to everyone’s shock, was announced during a recent Nintendo Direct. It’ll be arriving on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Steam sometime in 2024, though we don’t know the exact date just yet.

Regardless, it would seem that Chaos Productions Inc recently decided to pay homage to the occasion by highlighting the character select screens of the Marvel vs. Capcom series, including games that basically paved the way to making Marvel vs. Capcom a possibility. From this, you can really see how the character select screens have evolved over time.

During the video, character select screens are showcased for X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, all games which are part of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics.

One thing that’s worth keeping in mind is that the select screen for Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter is going to look different in the collection due to the apparent removal of Norimaro. Unfortunately, he’s effectively been replaced by the game’s logo, which means that there will be one less fighter to choose from.

Notably, there’s one more game that’s part of the MvC Fighting Collection not seen in the video. Of course, The Punisher isn’t actually a fighting game and actually functions within the beat ’em up genre, which should provide a fun distraction.

Chaos Productions Inc would then go on to highlight the characters select screens for Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. It’s important to remember that these games will not be included in the upcoming collection.
