Germany vs Hungary: Lineups, team news, injuries, and more!
With all the big teams having won their openers at 2024, Germany still stands out for the sheer dominance they displayed against Scotland on day one. Julian Nagelsmann will now be expected to keep that momentum going against Hungary and secure qualification to the next round with a game to spare — a luxury that the Germans have not enjoyed in some time.
Team news
According to reports out of Germany, Nagelsmann will not change his XI for the game against Hungary. For those who knew him back when he was in charge of Bayern Munich, this seems like a radical departure from his modus operandi. Julian Nagelsmann is a coach who likes to tinker, adjust, and innovate — he’s never quite satisfied with “good enough” if it can be “better”.
The fact that he’s likely to stick with what he knows shows that Germany need stability above all else at the moment. Therefore, this is what the lineup should look like versus Hungary on Wednesday:
Germany tore Scotland apart with Kai Havertz up top and Jamal Musiala plus Florian Wirtz on the wings. İlkay Gündoğan has reportedly suffered no ill effects from the knock he took during the opener and is fit to play, in front of a midfield duo of Robert Andrich and Toni Kroos. Andrich will need to watch out — one more yellow, and he gets a suspension.
The backline remaining unchanged is no surprise, with VfB Stuttgart left-back Maximilian Mittelstädt hoping to shine in front of his home crowd.
Is that lineup good enough to beat Hungary, or would you make some changes? Comment below!
