Galion’s Logan Keller stays perfect during the HOJGA season with his fourth victory

KENTON — Logan Keller is taking a two-prong approach to his final summer season with the Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association.

“I’m trying to win (HOJGA) scholarships, but also I want to get my game into a good spot going into college so that I’m ready for the first part of the season,” he said.

The recent Galion graduate is honing his game for when he enrolls at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne this fall. He will be a member of the men’s golf team, joining his older brother Spencer who was the program’s top golfer last season. So if he can earn a few scholarship dollars toward the cause — all the better.

“I’m really excited for it to see how my game stacks up against a bunch of really good players at the next level,” Keller said.

On Thursday at Veterans Memorial Golf Course in Kenton, Keller made it 4-for-4 in HHOJGA events this summer by taking the boys 16-to-18 age group again. He shot an even par 72 with a 35-37. His victory was by two shots over Henry Terry of Olentangy. Matthew Ralph and Parker Steffanni tied for third at 76, and Dawson Hall shot a 78 for fifth.

Keller said he’s working on his mental approach as much as the physical game this summer.

“It’s more my mindset, trying not to get too down on myself if I’ve made a bad shot. It’s always look forward to the next shot. Keep it in front of me,” he said. “It’s keep it the same as any round of golf. Keep the ball in front of me and don’t make many mistakes and just try to the score as good as I possibly can.”

He’s ready for the next stage in his golf career.

“It’s gone fast,” he said of his high school days. “It’s hard to believe it’s over, but I’m glad I got a good four years in.”

Other winner on Thursday

Pleasant grad Maura Murphy won the girls 13-to-18 group for the third time in four events this season, shooting a 5-over-par 77. Madison Gray was next with an 86 followed in the top five by Maddie Murphy’s 89, Rayma Smith’s 91 and Olivia Ross with a 92.
