FunGuyz magic mushroom dispensary permanently closed
A magic mushroom dispensary that opened in Kitchener in March is now permanently closed.
FunGuyz confirmed to CityNews Kitchener their storefront on Victoria Street shut down almost two months ago.
The signage has been removed from the exterior of the building.
The illegal business had been the subject of multiple raids since opening. It includes one in early May, which seems to coincide with the dispensary’s closure.
Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic addressed the store’s closure in a statement to CityNews.
“Kitchener has no interest in providing a home to illegally operating businesses,” wrote Vrbanovic. “I am grateful to residents in the area who exercised patience during this business operation and while our community safety partners at the Waterloo Region Police Service exercised their jurisdiction to stop illegal activity that was occurring at this location.”
The FunGuyz location in Kitchener was the second to open in Waterloo Region.
The first dispensary is located on King Street East in Cambridge and has been operating since November.
FunGuyz confirmed that location is still running.
Police have previously said there’s “a large ongoing” investigation into the dispensaries, while FunGuyz said its willing to break the law to connect people with the “therapeutical benefits” of psilocybin.
