The 32nd Annual Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation Golf Classic raised more than $59,000 from their event last month.
Surprises and community spirit were in abundance at the June 21 event at Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community, whether it was the mini massages offered out on the course, live music during the lunch hour, margaritas on hole 12, or the volunteers from the hospital offering their thanks. Business and individual contributions made for a very special, fun-filled day capped with a heartwarming, surprise announcement before the live auction.
Dr. Elizabeth Thompson had just spoken about the value of the surgical equipment currently on the foundation’s priority list. Rhonda Stevens, co-executive director of the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation, read a local philanthropist’s note aloud to guests, hand-delivered by one of the golf participants:
“As you know I am committed to supporting our incredible clinicians. I am excited to be part of the support for the surgical services fundraising at the Comox Valley Hospital. I am pledging $50,000 in a matching funds donation, and another $50,000 once the community meets the challenge.”
Dedicated to ensuring teams at the Comox Valley Hospital have the most enhanced equipment to offer the best possible care for the people of our community, the philanthropist saw an opportunity to motivate community members to be part of an important cause.
The generous pledge sparked excitement leading into the live auction at the golf event. The philanthropist’s thoughtful initiative to challenge and inspire our community with a matching donation launched with a great start.
The organizing committee notes $43,000 was raised this year at the event with an additional $16,000 in matching funds from auction purchases provided by the philanthropist, bringing the overall fundraising total to $59,300. Event proceeds will be directed to top-of-the-line surgical equipment for the Comox Valley Hospital.
