Bhopal: Shoaib Akhtar, a young cricketer from Bhopal and son of a mason, is making significant strides in the world of UK Club Cricket. Despite financial hurdles, Akhtar’s unwavering passion for cricket has seen him excel. Playing for Daisy Hill Cricket Club, the 23-year-old has taken 48 wickets and scored over 400 runs in 12 matches, including a standout performance of seven wickets in a game, earning him a spot on the Honours Board.Born into a humble family, Akhtar’’ journey to professional cricket has been anything but not easy. Financial constraints have often made even purchasing cricket equipment difficult. Regardless, his determination and skill have propelled him forward. Left arm spinner Akhtar’s dream of achieving success akin to the legendary Pakistani fast bowler, also named Shoaib Akhtar, continues to guide his efforts.Akhtar has displayed resilience and perseverance, attributes that have helped him overcome numerous challenges. His father, Mansoor Ansari, reflected on his son’s longstanding love for cricket. “Cricket has been his passion. We have never thought of seeing him play for an overseas club. This is like dream come true for my family. I wish him to play for the country in the future,” said Mansoor Ansari.After facing a two-year ban on playing cricket due to issues concerning his age, Akhtar made a strong comeback last year. This hiatus from the sport was challenging, but support from Faisal Meer Khan, Bhopal based sports promoter, played a crucial role in his return. Akhtar recalls the assistance he received from Meer.“In such situation, Faisal sir helped me in not boosting my confidence and also motivating to join a club in UK. From arranging visa to other finances it was only his efforts that I could resume my game with a game overseas,” said Akhtar.Meer, who has been instrumental in helping players like Akhtar, expressed his satisfaction with Shoaib’s progress.“I have been supporting such players who are in need but finances are the hurdles. I am happy that he is shining over there,” said Meer.Akhtar’s performances at Daisy Hill Cricket Club have garnered attention, marking him as a rising talent in the realm of cricket. His achievements on the field underscore his potential to make a significant impact in the cricketing world.Growing up in a modest household, he encountered numerous obstacles that could have discouraged him. Nonetheless, his resolve to pursue cricket never waned.
