A 29-year-old man is dead after a shooting in South Surrey on Friday morning.
Four suspects were later taken into custody, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.
“Initial evidence suggests this was a targeted shooting,” said IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Timothy Pierotti in a news release. The victim’s identity has not been released.
Surrey RCMP said the shooting near 164th Street and 10th Avenue took place at 8:46 a.m. on Friday.

“A short time later, Surrey RCMP received a report of a vehicle on fire on McMillan Road,” said Cpl. Sarbjit Sangha of the Surrey RCMP.
The area where the vehicle was found on fire is about a 10-minute drive from where the shooting took place, though police haven’t confirmed whether the vehicle is connected to the shooting. Burning a getaway vehicle is a hallmark of gang shootings in Metro Vancouver.
Officers spent Friday morning canvassing the area and speaking to residents near the shooting site.
One neighbour who spoke to Postmedia News said she was in the bathroom when she heard several shots and then spotted a vehicle driving away. The neighbour declined to give a name due to concerns about safety following the shooting.
Another neighbour, who also didn’t want to be identified due to safety concerns, said they were on their patio and saw the aftermath of the shooting across the street. The resident said they spotted the victim on the sidewalk and another person standing over them.
At least one home nearby was struck by a bullet, according to a third neighbour who spoke with Postmedia and said they found a bullet hole in their window.

It’s the second visit by police to the same neighbourhood this week, after a 911 call on Wednesday prompted a visit by the RCMP and an emergency response team to a home on 164th, between 9th and 10th avenues. In that case, Sangha said the call was made by a person who was in crisis.
“One person was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to hospital,” she said Wednesday.
Surrey RCMP maintained on Friday that the two incidents are unrelated.
Police are asking anyone with information about Friday’s shooting to contact investigators at 1-877-551-4448 or email to ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
