Former Seahawks WR says he’s reached out to Steelers about possible NFL return

The majority of Steelers’ fans are aware that the team has a pressing need at wide receiver. I’m assuming management does as well. Let’s keep it real – you’ve probably never heard the name John Ursua, but maybe you should now.

Ursua was drafted in the 7th round by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Hawaii product went on to play three years for Seattle, bouncing around from the practice squad to the active roster. He tore his ACL in 2021 and spent some time playing in the CFL the past two years.

Most importantly, in his short stint with the Seahawks – he became one of now Steelers’ QB Russell Wilson’s best friends. Just a few weeks back he was working out with Wilson and Seahawks’ WR DK Metcalf.

While appearing on “The Sick Podcast – Steelers Crazy,” Ursua mentioned that his agent had been in touch with the Steelers about a possible return.

He also talked about his relationship with Wilson at length – calling him “the ultimate leader and teacher.” He also said Wilson called him as soon as he was drafted to check in on him.

Listen, I get that the idea of a return of a player who had one career NFL reception is a gumby-like stretch. But he’s a true slot receiver that those around the Seahawks were excited about before his injury.

It’s unknown if Pittsburgh is answering the call – but one thing is for certain; Russell Wilson certainly is.
