Former LSU basketball player Tremont Waters helps Puerto Rico earn spot in 2024 Paris Olympics

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Former LSU men’s basketball star Tremont Waters helped Puerto Rico earn a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics after the team advanced through one of the FIBA qualifying tournaments.

Puerto Rico took down Lithuania, 79-68, to qualify for their first appearance in the Olympics since 2004. According to LSU Athletics, Waters had 18 points in the championship game.

Puerto Rico is set to face off against the United States, Serbia and South Sudan in group play at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

During his freshman campaign at LSU, Waters averaged 15.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. In his sophomore season, he averaged 15.3 points per game, 5.8 assists per game and 2.91 steals per game, according to LSU Athletics.

In 2019, Waters helped lead the Tigers to an SEC regular season championship and an appearance in the Sweet 16.

According to LSU Athletics, Waters was named to the Freshman All-SEC Team, All-SEC first team, SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year and a Bob Cousy Award finalist during his career in Baton Rouge.
