Former Baylor tennis player Peers qualifies for third Olympics
John Peers is peerless when it comes to former Baylor tennis players competing in the Olympics.
Peers, 35, has qualified for his third Olympic team for his native Australia and will compete at this summer’s Paris Games.
Peers started out his college career at Middle Tennessee State before transferring to Baylor, where he was an All-Big 12 and ITA All-American performer. He and teammate Roberto Maytin finished No. 5 in the national ITA rankings in doubles.
As a professional, Peers has claimed several wins, including the men’s doubles title at the 2017 Australian Open and a mixed doubles crown at the 2022 US Open. He also had runner-up doubles finishes at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2015.
This will mark his third Olympic appearance after competing in the 2016 and 2020 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo, respectively. At the Tokyo Games, he claimed a bronze medal in mixed doubles alongside partner Ashleigh Barty.
