Foote hired to basketball coaching staff – Virginia Military Institute
LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI head basketball coach Andrew Wilson announced Thursday the hiring of Perin Foote as an assistant coach for the VMI Basketball program.
Foote comes to the Institute by way of the University of Missouri, where he was on staff since the 2022-23 season.
“We are very fortunate to have Perin join our staff,” Wilson said. “He has worked for two of the best coaches in the country and has impacted winning at every stop along the way. He brings tremendous energy and an infectious personality to everything he does. Our players will benefit greatly from his experience and relentless attitude. Perin will be a great fit at VMI and the Lexington community.”
With the Tigers, Foote spent two seasons as the program’s Player Development Coordinator. Mizzou completed one of its best seasons in years with the team posting its most wins in 11 seasons and capping the campaign with its first NCAA Tournament victory in 13 years.
Additionally, Foote assisted in the development of two NBA players in his two seasons on campus as Kobe Brown became the program’s 16th first-round NBA draft pick by the Los Angeles Clippers. D’Moi Hodge signed a free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Foote joined the Mizzou staff in May 2022 after two seasons as a graduate assistant at Cleveland State. With the Vikings, he helped the program capture back-to-back regular-season Horizon League titles in 2021 and 2022 while claiming the league’s tournament crown in 2021 and bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to CSU, Foote spent four years as the head manager at Florida State under Leonard Hamilton. In his role there, he assisted in scouting reports, on-court development and gameday preparation.
During his time at Florida State, the Seminoles earned four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight trip in 2018. Foote assisted in the development of nine NBA draft picks, including Malik Beasley, Terrance Mann, Patrick Williams, Devin Vassell and Scottie Barnes.
Foote also served on the USA Basketball Junior National Teams coaching staff. He has worked with the U14-U19 Junior National Teams for the last six years, and most recently worked with the 2019 USA National Team under Gregg Popovich.
He graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Florida State in 2020 and earned his master’s from Cleveland State in 2022.
