First Look: See likely fields for graded stakes at 3 tracks

New York Racing Association action returns to Aqueduct this weekend, with older fillies and mares facing off in the Grade 2 Bed o’ Roses. Monmouth Park hosts three graded stakes, and Domestic Product is expected for the listed Pegasus, which would be his first start since the Kentucky Derby.

And Santa Anita wraps up its spring meet with the San Juan Capistrano (G3) on Sunday.

Here’s a look at the likely fields.

Saturday

Bed o’ Roses (G2), Aqueduct, 7 furlongs, fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Flying Connection had won three in a row before finishing second to Adare Manor in the Apple Blossom (G1) and then third in the Derby City Distaff (G1). In her first graded-stakes start since October, Leave No Trace scored in the Vagrancy (G3), with Beguine, also expected here, finishing fourth. Morning Matcha rallied to win the black-type Unique Bella in April, her only start this year.

Salvator Mile (G3), Monmouth Park, 1 mile, 3-year-olds and up

Bright Future, winner of the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) last year, would make his first start since finishing sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Coastal Mission has won 12 of 20 starts but is 0-for-2 in graded stakes, most recently finishing fourth in the Maryland Sprint (G3). After two optional-claiming allowance wins, Sherlock’s Jewel tried graded company in his most recent start and finished second to Skippylongstocking in the Challenger (G3).

Monmouth (G3), Monmouth Park, 1 1/8 miles (turf), 3-year-olds and up

Siege of Boston is winless in his last six starts, finishing second or third in each except for a sixth-place effort in the Turf Classic (G1) last out. California Frolic is looking for his first win since June 2022.

Eatontown (G3), Monmouth Park, 1 1/16 miles (turf), fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Fluffy Socks broke a seven race losing streak with her win as the odds-on favorite last out in the Gallorette (G3). Ocean Club is coming off two straight wins, most recently scoring in the black-type Monroe at Gulfstream Park. Thirty Thou Kelvin was sixth in the Monroe and is looking for his first victory of the year after closing 2023 with two wins in a row.

Pegasus (listed), Monmouth Park 1 1/16 miles, 3-year-olds

Tampa Bay Derby (G3) winner Domestic Product would make his first start since finishing 13th in the Kentucky Derby. Hades won his first three starts, including the Holy Bull (G3), but is 0-for-2 since on the Kentucky Derby trail.

Sunday

San Juan Capistrano (G3), Santa Anita, 1 3/4 miles (turf), 3-year-olds and up

Four runners from the Charles Whittingham (G2) could return here, including winner Gold Phoenix, who got his first win of the year in the May 4 race. The top three finishers from last year, winner Planetario, Offlee Naughty and Rimprotector also are probable or possible.
