Fewer Young Canadians Entering Workforce: Report

A new study by the Fraser Institute suggests fewer young people are getting out into the workforce.

The rate of unemployment among Canadians aged 15-24 increased to 12.6 per cent in May of this year, compared to the rate of 9.7 per cent in January 2023.

For young people who are employed, statistics show they’re working less in comparison to young employees in the 1980s.

In 1989, the average young worker worked just under 31 hours per week. In 2023, those in the same age range worked nearly 26 hours weekly.
