The Indian cricket team are wearing black armbands in the 2024 T20 World Cup clash against Afghanistan at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Thursday (June 20) in what is their first game in the Super 8 stage of the competition.
All 15 players as well as the support staff of the national team were spotted wearing black armbands as the team assembled for the national anthem ahead of the start of the match after Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first.
Why Are India Wearing Black Armbands?
For those unversed, Johnson passed away on Thursday, aged 52, in Bengaluru. The former India pacer, who hails from Karnataka, played two Test matches for the national team in 1996.

India came into the match unbeaten in the tournament, having won three games in the group stage of the competition, with one ending in a washout.
This is the first Super 8 game for both stages, with India and Afghanistan in Group 1 alongside Australia and Bangladesh.
India will next face Bangladesh on Saturday (June 22) in Antigua before a blockbuster clash against Australia in Antigua on Monday (June 24).
