Expanding Smaller Housing Options for Seniors Will Help Address Housing Shortage: Torbay Mayor

One of the ways of addressing housing shortages in communities is to expand smaller housing options for seniors.

That’s according to Craig Scott, the Mayor of Torbay.

Recently, the federal government announced nearly $463,000 for Municipalities NL to help build housing capacity.

Scott says there are many seniors in the town who want to downsize their homes and stay in the town, but they can’t because of a lack of options in the community.

Scott says giving seniors the option to move would open up those bigger homes for families.

Further, he says because those homes are generally older, they would be lower in price—which would help people entering the market.
