England vs Slovenia LIVE: Euro 2024 football score, line-ups & updates
This will be England and Slovenia’s second encounter at a major tournament; England won 1-0 in the group stages of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Slovenia have won none of their six matches against England, in all competitions (D1 L5). Greece and fellow Group C side Denmark are the only opponents they have faced on more occasions (7) without ever winning a single match.
England are looking to go through a fourth consecutive UEFA EURO group stage unbeaten, having done so at 2012, 2016 and 2020. They’ve won on MD3 at three of their last four European Championship tournaments (D1) since losing 3-2 to Romania at EURO 2000 under Kevin Keegan.
Slovenia have played more matches without winning at the UEFA EURO than any other nation, drawing four and losing one of their five games. Indeed, they have never beaten a European nation at a major tournament, also losing both games at the World Cup in 2002 against Spain and 2010 vs England.
England have won 34 of their last 37 matches in which they have scored the first goal (D3), although two of their failures to do so have come across the last two UEFA EURO tournaments – the 2020 final vs Italy (1-1) and on MD2 this year against Denmark (1-1).
Slovenia are unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions (W4 D4), only enjoying a longer unbeaten run once in their history (9 games between September 2020 and March 2021).
England have faced five more shots than they’ve attempted at EURO 2024 (17 shots, 22 faced). They have failed to have more shots than their opponents in five of their last seven EURO group stages (1992, 2000, 2004, 2012, 2020), something hasn’t happened at any of their last seven World Cup group stage appearances between 1998 and 2022.
England are averaging 8.9 shots per game at the UEFA EURO under Gareth Southgate (80 in 9 games). Going into MD3, that is the lowest shots per game any nation has had under a manager to take charge of them in more than five matches at the European Championship on record (since 1980).
Petar Stojanovic won possession 11 times for Slovenia in their MD2 game against Serbia – in a major tournament game, the only Slovenian player to win possession more was Ales Ceh at EURO 2000 against Spain (14).
Harry Kane has scored five goals in his last six UEFA EURO appearances, with only Wayne Rooney (6) and Alan Shearer (7) scoring more EURO goals for England. Kane has only managed two touches in the opposition box at EURO 2024, however, the same total as both Kyle Walker and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
