England vs Netherlands LIVE: Score updates as Foden shines after Kane penalty
England and the Netherlands played out a thrilling start to their semi-final at Euro 2024 with both sides battling for a place in Sunday’s final against Spain.
A lively start in Dortmund saw Xavi Simons punish Declan Rice in possession with a stunning strike from range.
But the Three Lions responded, just as they did against Switzerland before still requiring penalties to reach the semi-finals, with Harry Kane fouled by Denzel Dumfries in the penalty area.
The Bayern Munich striker dispatched the controversial spot kick, which Gary Neville labelled “a disgrace” amid intense debate in the ITV studio, after a lengthy VAR review and Phil Foden’s sublime skill almost put Gareth Southgate’s side into the lead.
Follow the latest updates and reaction from the Netherlands vs England below:
England 1-1 Netherlands
62 mins: Cody Gakpo goes on a fine run and weaves inside of Kyle Walker before switching the ball out to Denzel Dumfries.
Gakpo wants the cross early but Dumfries passes it inside to Joey Veerman whose cross is too high and too long to be a danger for England.

60 mins: The referee has been fairly lenient tonight. Kane is shouldered off the ball and goes down but doesn’t complain when the referee plays on.
Denzel Dumfries then thinks he was hindered by Luke Shaw trying to control a dropping ball but again the referee lets the game flow.

England 1-1 Netherlands
57 mins: Netherlands just can’t get out at the minute. England aren’t really piling much pressure on their penalty area but they are pegging the Dutch in their own half and have the awareness to cut out any developing counter-attacks.
Can they make this pressure count and get themselves ahead?

Our senior football correspondent Richard Jolly with an update from Dortmund:
A second change already from Ronald Koeman is a sign that the Netherlands are struggling to get to grips with England. First Joey Veerman – hauled off after 35 minutes against Austria – was a very different replacement when Memphis Depay was injured, with the aim of giving them more of a foothold in midfield. Now Wout Weghorst has come on at half-time. Xavi Simons, who starred at the start in a central role, is now on the right.

England 1-1 Netherlands
54 mins: England work the ball nicely out to Shaw on the left who puts a cross into the box that Dumfries knocks out for a throw in. England have picked up where they left off but they’re still getting used to this switch in formation.
Netherlands manage to turn over the ball and feed it over to Simons on the right. He dribbles to the edge of the box but can’t find a way around Kobbie Mainoo.

51 mins: A long throw from Walker sends Saka into the penalty area. He keeps the ball in play then knocks it back into the middle but Harry Kane isn’t around to get on the end of it.
That was a chance for England but the striker’s positioning was off once again.

48 mins: From the first few minutes of the second half it looks like England may have slipped into a back four but their system is fluid enough that they’ve got cover when needed.
Joey Veerman presses up against Kobbie Mainoo and blocks a pass as the midfielder looks to slip a ball through to Bukayo Saka.
