Email Spoofing Fraudsters Getting Smarter, Says Tech Blogger

A local tech blogger says a recent incident involving a local business defrauded of $80,000 is proof that it’s getting harder and harder to identify hackers and their nefarious activities.

Kevin Andrews was responding to an incident involving Jumping Bean, where a hacker using a spoofed email, infiltrated an email thread with his bank and convinced the company to send a payment meant for a supplier to them.

Andrews says unfortunately, hackers are getting better at what they do with the help of AI technology.

“These malicious hackers can certainly create emails now using AI and make it look like it’s coming from someone you may know.” He says “even the people you do know, you really have to contact them first before you step any further digitally.”
