Elk Point lotto winner planning to travel

ELK POINT – A trip to the dentist resulted in significant lottery win for an Elk Point woman – and the opportunity to travel.

Fay May bought a LIGHTNING LOTTO ticket on the way to a dentist appointment in Lloydminster, since she was curious about the new game, according to information from Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC).

As the ticket was printed, she found out she would take home the first-ever LIGHTNING LOTTO jackpot – coming in at $158,709.10.

“I had read how it works and just wanted to see for myself,” said May. “Then all of a sudden, the lightning bolt showed up, and the lightning sound effect and number came up the cashier was so excited.”

May is the first in the Prairies to ever win on LIGHTNING LOTTO.

“I called my daughter and husband, and they were so excited,” she said.

Now, May is planning a trip of a lifetime.

“We’re going to Europe – to Italy,” she explained. “And my husband and I are going to go to a NASCAR race. We haven’t gone since before COVID, so we’re really excited.”

While she says it’s great to save for retirement, she and her husband also want to get out and do things.

May purchased the LIGHTNING LOTTO ticket from Shoppers Drug Mart in Lloydminster Mall. She won the jackpot prize by matching all five numbers selected in the May 3 draw – 15, 17, 30, 32, 41.
