El Paso’s Laneah Bryan continues to make strides in world of flag football

El Paso’s Laneah Bryan has been named to the 12-athlete roster for USA Football’s U.S. Women’s Flag Football National Team and will compete at the IFAF Flag Football World Championship in Finland this August.

Teams from more than 25 total countries are expected to compete in the event.

Prior to getting into flag football, Laneah was a standout on the hardwood at Franklin High School. She is a former El Paso Times’ All-City MVP. Bryan went on to earn a basketball scholarship at the University of New Mexico, playing four seasons (2014-18) for the Lobos, seeing action in 121 career games.

Laneah earned her spot on the U.S. National Team following the completion of USA Football’s training camp in Charlotte, N.C., which trimmed the rosters from 18 athletes each down to 12.

Bryan plays defensive back and wide receiver.

Bryan has been playing flag football for five years, but she has made the most of her time, first earning a spot with U.S. National Team in 2023, helping the team to a gold-medal winning performance in the IFAF Americas Continental Championship over Mexico. In that tournament, Bryan helped the U.S. to a perfect 6-0 record, tallying seven interceptions, including one in the gold medal match.
