Durham police say girl, 15, attacked officer after dispute over vape

Durham regional police allege a 15-year-old girl attacked an officer at a Whitby home on Sunday.

Officers were called to the home in the Taunton Road West and Thornton Road North area at around 10:10 p.m. for reports of a family dispute.

Police say the girl was causing a disturbance with her parents and was refusing to leave the property.

But officers allege the girl became violent when she couldn’t get her vape from her bedroom in a timely fashion.

“After speaking with officers, the female agreed to leave the residence but wanted her vape from her bedroom,” a police release explains.

“When the female did not immediately get her vape, she attacked an officer.”

She was arrested at the scene and taken into custody while the officer attended a local hospital for minor injuries.

The teen, who can’t be named because she’s a minor, is facing charges of assault a peace officer and disobey an order of the court.
