Driver charged in hit-and-run found at golf course

A Guelph driver, apparently too eager to use his golf clubs, has been charged after a hit-and-run crash in the Royal City.

Guelph Police say it happened at 5:36 Tuesday afternoon, involving a suspected driver, and golfer, whom police say was rushing to get to his 6:00 p.m. tee time.

It happened at Victoria Road South and York Road.

Police say a review of dashcam video showed an SUV leaving a parking lot, going across three lanes of traffic, and crashing into the victim’s SUV, pushing it off the road and into a pole.

That driver was not hurt.

Police say the suspect driver’s mother told them his son was out golfing, and police soon found his damaged vehicle in the parking lot of a local course.

They found the driver who allegedly made excuses about his tee time.

Police were unwilling to give him a mulligan, and charged him with careless driving, and failing to stop at a collision.
