Driven by online betting, Pa. gaming revenue jumps almost 9% in May
Pennsylvania brought in just a few dollars shy of $521 million in gaming revenue in May, the state Gaming Control Board announced this week, an increase of about 8.7% over the same month last year.
The increase was fueled primarily by online virtual slots and table games, whose combined revenue for the month clocked in at over $174 million, a boost of about 23.5% compared to May 2023.
Even with the increase in online activity, physical slot machines continue to be the largest type of gaming regulated by the control board — bringing in over $214 million in May, an increase of about 1.6% compared to 2023.
May’s overall gaming activity generated $216 million in tax revenue, according to the board.
Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course was the state’s biggest single revenue-generating casino, posting about $81.7 million in May, a 9.8% increase over the same month last year.
Valley Forge Casino Resort is not far behind, with $79.6 million in revenue last month, a year-to-year jump of almost 24% driven by online gaming, which grew over 50% and now makes up the majority of Valley Forge’s overall income.
Locally, the relatively new Parx Shippensburg casino saw revenue grow from $2.7 million in May of last year to over $3.2 million this May.
