DPR Proposes To The Police, Bandar Judi Online Also Needs To Be Made Poor
JAKARTA – The DPR has submitted a proposal to the National Police so that the money laundering offense article is also applied to online bookies (judol). Similar to drugs, judol practice also destroys morals.
“We support the National Police to ensnare drug dealers under the money laundering article so that there are no more drugs in Indonesia. And we encourage that the money laundering offense article is also applied to online bookies that damage people’s morale and have an impact on the country’s economy,” said a member of Commission III of the DPR, Gilang Dhielafararez, Tuesday, July 16.
He said, the current danger of online gambling is equivalent to drugs in Indonesia, because it has an impact not only on users but also on others or those around them. Gilang said that the bold and decisive steps of the police will provide a deterrent effect on arrested online bookies.
“By impoverishing the dealer, we hope that the brains of online gamblers will no longer be able to repeat their crimes because they run out of capital. So this is one of the steps to destroy online gambling practices,” said the legislator from the Central Java II electoral district.
“Because apart from damaging morals, online gambling has plunged people into debt behavior, which makes users addicted. Not a few social problems arise due to online gambling,” added Gilang.
The DPR will continue to encourage the Government and law enforcers to be consistent in stopping online gambling. In addition, the DPR also emphasized the importance of the Government conducting education about the dangers of online gambling to the public.
He added that the firmness of law enforcement against the main players of online gambling can restore public trust in the Police. Especially after several cases caused the image of the Police to decline.
The firmness of the police is also considered to increase public confidence in the performance of the police, which has been considered less than optimal. The reason is, according to Gilang, there are still many people who are reluctant to seek protection from the Police because they think they will be ignored if there is no ‘pelicin’.
“This can be a turning point for the police in restoring public trust again. So that people believe the police can provide protection and a sense of security to the people, which is the duty of the Police,” he said.
Gilang also gave an example of what happened to the Bajaj driver named Supriyadi. The story went viral because Bajaj was stolen but did not want to report it to the police because he admitted that he did not have money. Supriyadi felt that the case of the theft of Bajaj would not be investigated by the police if he did not give money for the reporting process.
“This is very sad, how should the people feel safe asking for protection from the police as protectors of the community and law enforcers. There is something wrong until the people feel they have to bring money when they want to make a report to the police,” said Gilang.
