‘Don’t neglect your houseplants!’ Expert shares important plant care jobs to do now
As temperatures increase, Britons want to make sure the plants in their garden continue to thrive.
However, it is vital not to neglect your houseplants and an expert shared the best ways to care for them during the summer.
The most important job to do right now is “water and wipe” houseplants, garden expert at Gazeboshop Samantha Richards said.
She explained: “While you may be focusing most of your attention outside this time of year, try not to neglect your houseplants in the process.

“Even if they do not receive direct sunlight, it’s likely that the soil is getting drier in line with the warmer weather and lighter days.
“Check the soil of your house plants a couple of times a week and top up with water if needed.”
Different houseplants have different needs, so it is important to tend to them individually.
Generally, most varieties will need more water in summer than they do in autumn and winter as soil will dry out more quickly.
Regular dusting is also important when caring for your houseplants, the expert explained, and does more than just improve its appearance.
She added: “Some houseplants are also more prone to collecting dust so give them a regular wipe down to keep them looking their best.”
Not only does this help your plants look great, removing dirt and dust is good for the plants too.
It helps the plant to have more photosynthetic activity which ultimately encourages more growth.

Gardening enthusiast Riley Smith said: “I was gone for a few days and came back to see my peace lily looked [droopy]. It was so sad but I managed to revive it in just a few hours.
“I dusted all the leaves then took it to the shower to soak all the leaves and all the soil all the way through. I rinsed it off and let it sit in the sun for a couple of hours.”
The plant enthusiast explained this routine completely brought her plant back to life.
