Belleville police responded to 225 calls for service from 5 a.m. on July 5, 2024 to 5 a.m. on July 8, 2024.

Breach of Undertaking

On July 5, 2024 at 7:40 p.m., Belleville police attended a business on North Front St after receiving reports that a male was being harassed. Police attended and spoke to the victim. Police learned that the suspect, a 43-year-old Belleville man was already on conditions not to have communication with the victim. As a result, police arrested the suspect and charged him with failing to comply with his undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing.

Theft of Bicycle

On July 5, 2024 at 7:55 a.m., police received a report of a stolen bicycle from an address on Dundas Street East. The bike is described as a blue Raleigh mountain bike with yellow and green writing on it. The bike has 27.5” wheels. Anyone observing this bike is asked to contact the Belleville Police Service.

Arrested on Warrant

On July 5, 2024 at 10 a.m., Belleville police were contacted by a Provincial Correctional Facility and advised that a male was being released, however, he had outstanding arrest warrants held by the Belleville Police Service. Members attended the facility and arrested 41-year-old Jesse Breen of Belleville on warrants for failing to comply with an undertaking, failing to comply with a probation order, failing to comply with an appearance notice and theft under $5000. Breen was held for a bail hearing.

Careless Driving

On July 6, 2024 at 4:40 p.m., members of the Belleville Police Service responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the city’s west end. As a result of their investigation, police determined that the vehicle left the roadway which resulted in property damage. The female driver was charged with careless driving and issued a provincial offence notice.

Family dispute leads to charges

On July 7, 2024 at 12:54 a.m., Belleville police responded to a residence in the city’s north end. Upon their arrival, police spoke to the homeowner who advised that an 18-year-old resident of the house had returned home and appeared under the influence of drugs. The 18-year-old and his younger brother became involved in a physical altercation. The 18-year-old then proceeded to smash glass furniture and punched a hole in the wall. He then departed the residence prior to police arrival. He returned to the residence a short time later. During his arrest, the 18-year-old physically resisted and assaulted a police officer. After the brief struggle with police, the male was taken into custody. As a result of this incident, the male was charged with resisting arrest, assaulting a peace officer and mischief. The officer was not injured.

Police also learned that the same male was currently wanted on an arrest warrant from an incident on June 22 in Belleville. The arrest warrant was for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, assault with a weapon, robbery with a weapon, mischief under $5000 and assault with a weapon. The 18-year-old male was held in custody for a bail hearing on the new charges and the arrest warrant.

Assault and Mischief

On July 7, 2024 at 8:37 p.m., Belleville police were called to a residence in the city’s west end regarding an assault. Upon arrival, police spoke to the female victim who advised that the 16-year-old male suspect from Trenton had physically assaulted her and then proceeded to smash her cell phone. The victim sustained minor injuries. Police located the suspect a short time later. He was arrested and charged with assault and mischief under $5000. The name of the suspect can not be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He was released on an undertaking with a court date in August.

Motor Vehicle Collision

On July 7, 2024 at 11:07 a.m., Belleville police, fire and paramedics responded to a two-vehicle collision on North Park Street near McFee Street. One of the drivers was assessed by paramedics but not transported to the hospital. One of the vehicles was towed from the scene. As a result of the police investigation, a 60-year-old Belleville man was charged with “turn not in safety” and was issued a Provincial Offence Notice.
