Detroit Pistons fans shocked by Trajan Langdon taking Ron Holland with fifth overall pick
Is this a weak NBA Draft class? Not according to the players who are in it
We caught up with NBA prospects ahead of the 2024 draft and gave them a chance to defend themselves after some have called this a weak class.
In one of the most unpredictable NBA drafts in history, the Detroit Pistons surprised everyone and selected Ron Holland with the No. 5 overall pick and predictably, those posting on social media were divided.
For years, experts have discussed the bizarre 2024 class and the lack of star power, especially at the top. There was no consensus player at the top of this year’s draft, and that is both good news and bad news for the Pistons.
DETROIT PISTONS INSTANT GRADE: Ron Holland pick is a big swing
After going 14-68 last year, the worst season in franchise history, the Pistons were clearly in need of a franchise changer, and by all accounts, that’s not what this draft offered.
The good news for the Pistons is after sliding to the fifth pick despite finishing with the worst record in the NBA last year, they weren’t going to be able to land a Victor Wembanyama-type of player anyway, and by landing Holland, the Pistons accomplished their goal of bringing in more talented players to a team that desperately needed it.
Take a look at what fans and experts had to say on social media about the first major move for new Pistons president of basketball operations, Trajan Langdon.
