‘Deadloch,’ Amazon’s Australian Crime-Comedy Series, Heads for Second Season

Deadloch,” an Amazon original comedy drama series from Australia, has been given the green light for a second season

The first season saw two very different female detectives thrown together to solve the murder of a man and was set in Tasmania. While the second season sees the return of Kate Box and Madeleine Sami as detectives Dulcie Collins and Eddie Redcliffe, it shifts the action to tropical northern Queensland, known locally as the ‘Top End.’

“The detective duo are in Darwin investigating the death of Eddie’s former policing partner, Bushy, but when the bodies of two Top End icons are discovered in a remote town, they are flung into a new sweatier, stickier investigation,” according to an official synopsis. Other cast reprising their roles are Nina Oyama and Alicia Gardiner.

Production on the six-part second season will start later this year and the completed show will be released globally on Prime Video at an unspecified date. Principal photography will also involve a stint at the Screen Queensland Studios in Brisbane, as well as utilizing the state’s waterways.”

The first season of “Deadloch” was a critical and audience success. It won five AACTA Awards earlier this year including best acting in a comedy for Box and best screenplay in television for Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan. The series recently scored three nominations in the 2024 TV Week Logie Awards, including best scripted comedy program.

It also reached Prime Video’s Top 10 TV Shows list in more than 165 countries and territories, including the U.S., UK, and Canada.

“Deadloch” S2 is created and written by McCartney and McLennan, who also serve as executive producers, alongside Kevin Whyte and Tanya Phegan from Guesswork Television. Andy Walker is the producer and the series will be directed by Beck Cole and Gracie Otto. Production company credits go to Prime Video, Guesswork Television and OK Great Productions.

“Deadloch” S2 is financed with the assistance of Screen Territory and supported by the Queensland state government through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy.

“Smart, slyly satirical and flat out funny, Season Two picks up where season one left off,” said Kevin Whyte and Tanya Phegan, executive producers, at Guesswork Television.
