Dave Portnoy trolls Kyrie Irving with clown shirt during Game 2 of NBA Finals
Dave Portnoy didn’t hold back when he trolled Kyrie Irving during Game 2 of the Celtics-Mavericks NBA Finals series on Sunday.
The Barstool Sports founder, who is a Boston native and diehard Celtics fan, sported a T-shirt with Irving’s face, which featured a clown nose, while sitting courtside at TD Garden.
Portnoy, 47, showed off his shirt when he was featured on the Jumbotron during the third quarter.
He was also seen standing and cheering in a photo posted by the Celtics on social media after Boston’s 105-98 win in Game 2.
Portnoy, who sat next to a mystery blonde, also shared that Barstool Sports is selling the “KI Clown Tee” for $32 in a post on X.
It came after he made waves on social media when he and Camryn D’Aloia were featured on the live broadcast during Game 4 of the Celtics-Heat first-round playoff series last month.
The Celtics also trolled Irving during his return to TD Garden on Sunday.
They featured a quote by Irving on the Jumbotron after Boston’s 107-89 rout of Dallas in Game 1, which read: “I thought it was gonna be a little louder in here.”
Celtics faithful didn’t give Irving a warm welcome in his return to TD Garden for the 2024 NBA Finals after his unceremonious exit in Boston.
Irving played for the Celtics for two seasons in 2017-18 and 2018-19 and didn’t deliver an 18th title to the franchise before he left for the Nets.
Many were upset with Irving for leaving Boston after he said he would re-sign with the team.
Irving made headlines on a number of occasions for his beef with Boston since then.
Irving burned sage on the court at TD Garden to “cleanse the energy” before a preseason game between the Nets and the Celtics in December 2020.
The next year, he appeared to stomp on the Celtics’ logo, Lucky the Leprechaun, at mid-court and wipe his foot across it after Game 4 of the Nets-Celtics first-round playoff series in May 2021.
The 2024 NBA Finals series between the Celtics and the Mavericks will continue with Game 3 at American Airlines Arena in Dallas on Wednesday.
