NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISIONS 2, 3 & 4 REPORTS – JULY 13

DIVISION TWO

Pontblyddyn 2nd XI (0) 75-10 Marchwiel and Wrexham 1st XI (15) 76-1

Leaders Marchwiel and Wrexham needed just 46 balls to make the 76 runs needed for victory at Alder Meadow.

Pontblyddyn seconds won the toss and batted, but were bowled out for just 75, and it would have been much worse but for skipper David Brilley’s determined 44.

For the visitors, Gareth Evans picked up 3-6 off four overs, Matt Lawrenson 3-9 from eight, Scott Lawrenson 2-9 and Muhammad Ghufran 2-19.

The away side reached the winning post in just 7.4 overs, finishing on 76-1, Sam Heard Edwards 38 not out and skipper Sam Shoemark 35 no, the unbeaten pair putting on 74 for the second wicket.

Gresford 2nd XI (0) 61-10 Corwen (15) 62-0

A resounding win for Corwen as they blitzed out Gresford seconds for just 61 and then coasted to victory without losing a wicket.

Simon Harrison took 3-15, Steff Lloyd 2-9 and Rob Storey 2-11 as the visitors scythed through the home line-up after opting to field first.

Harry Pooler (33 no) and Will Roberts (22 no) guided Corwen to 62-0 in just 13.5 overs to seal a 15-0 decision.

Llanrwst (14) 62-3 Menai Bridge 2nd XI (1) 61-10

Trefor Williams led the way with 4-11 off 7.3 as Llanrwst rolled over their Anglesey visitors for 61 before going on to complete a seven-wicket triumph.

Put into bat, the Bridge offered little resistance apart from a spirited 21 down the order from number nine and captain Dion Owen.

For the Rwsters, Trefor Williams was well supported by Alwyn Williams with 2-6 off eight, Kevin Johnson 2-7 from six and Owen Booth 2-8 off six.

In reply, Llanrwst may have been getting the jitters at 18-3, but skipper Aron Hughes (25 no) and Stefan Horan (16 no) led them to the required 62 without further loss.

Andrew Wannop took an impressive 3-10 off eight for the islanders.

Llay Welfare (13) 162-10 Bangor 2nd XI (2) 103-10

Skipper Tom Parry’s career best 5-13 was vital in leading Llay to a 13-2 points success at home to Bangor seconds.

The hosts were asked to bat and found themselves bowled out for 162, Joe Howell 46 and Nathan Humphreys 27, Matthew Flynn 3-12 and Ollie Dawson 3-15 for the Citizens.

Parry’s five-for then inspired Welfare to get rid of their visitors for 103, having been 72-1 at one stage, Sion Evans top-scoring with 37, while Jacob Roberts also scooped 3-9 for the winning side.

Mochdre 2nd XI (15) 82-0 Carmel and District (0) 80-10

Munim Khan took 3-2, Andrew Butlin 3-12, Alex J Davies 2-11 and James French 2-21 as Mochdre’s attack combined to bowl out Carmel for 80, then the hosts raced to 82-0 in 14.5 overs, Scott Roberts 52 no and Thomas Opie 29 no to secure a 15-0 win.

St Asaph 2nd XI (3) 134-9 Bersham (12) 135-6

Number seven bat Mike Thompson’s fine knock of 47 did most to help St Asaph seconds post a competitive 134-9 off 40 overs at Elwy Park Grove.

Chetan Upadhyaya added 26 not out and Tim Cloete 25 for the Saints, while Amith Thilakarathne pocketed 3-8 off eight for the visitors, Nilanka De Silva 2-21 and Anirudh Manon 2-24,

Bersham had their hiccups in reply, but made it to 135-6, Venkata Kanyadari 30 and Thilakarathne 29 not out, Upadhyaya 2-22 and Thompson 2-29 for Asaph.

DIVISION THREE

Ruthin (4) 91-10 Gwersyllt Park 2nd XI (11) 116-10

Shashika Meistry scored a magnificent 71 for a Gwersyllt Park seconds outfit which toppled the leaders at the Memorial Fields.

Put into bat, marvellous Meistry was the only double-figure scorer in a Gwersyllt total of 116 all out, Osian Roberts taking 4-24 and Charlie Russell 3-9 off eight for Ruthin.

Favourites for victory at this stage, the table-toppers were then bowled out for just 91, Duncan Roberts 26, Jake James 3-15, Michael Griffiths 2-10 and Ryan McCarthy 2-25 for the heroic visitors.

Abandoned

Conwy 2nd XI (4) 150-6 Buckley 2nd XI (11) 168-7

Johnny Hewitt was chief contributor with 41, while Samuel Jones and skipper Gary Mayers hit 27 and 24 respectively as Buckley seconds notched up a winning 168-7 at Bodlondeb after calling the coin correctly and deciding to bat.

Tom Pool (22 no) and Jon Whitnall (22) also added useful runs down the order, while for Conwy seconds, Callum Davies nabbed 3-29 and Philip Davies 2-30.

The hosts were limited to 150-6 in 40 overs, Jawad Afzal a superb 73 in a losing cause, Pool 2-19 and Samuel Jones 2-27 for Bucks,

Halkyn 2nd XI (0) 31-10 Clwb Criced Caernarfon (15) 32-1

Llyr Erddyn Davies grabbed the headlines with a ruthless 5-6 as Caenarfon romped to victory in a match which lasted just 26.4 overs in total.

Put in by the visitors, Halkyn seconds were all out for 31 in 18.1, Monis Altaf bagging 3-15 on top of Davies’ five-for off eight overs.

Altaf finished 19 not out as the Cofis eased to 32-1 in 8.3.

Hawarden Park 2nd XI (3) 106-7 Denbigh 2nd XI (12) 109-3

Ranija Abeysinghe’s excellent 3-10 off eight overs did more than anything to restrict Hawarden to a very modest 106-7 from 40 at Moor Lane.

Denbigh seconds then cruised to 109-3 off 26.3, Gerallt Lyall 39 no, Ieuan Jones 27 and Umer Farrukh 26.

Pwllheli (12) 110-7 Mold 2nd XI (3) 109-10

Quite a close contest at Parc Bodegroes saw Pwllheli get over the line by three wickets.

Inserted by the hosts, Mold seconds were all out for 109, Grufudd Edwards 34 and Rhys G Hughes 31, Ben Cowper gathering 3-20 and Kartik Bhardwaj 2-18 for the home team.

Pwll made it to 110-7, Adam Williams an important 35 and skipper Ioan Jones 21, Craig Roberts an impressive 4-12 off six and Henry Roberts 2-13 for the battling Flintshire outfit.

DIVISION FOUR

Marchwiel and Wrexham 2nd XI (15) 103-1 Abergele 2nd XI (0) 102-7

Leaders Marchwiel and Wrexham seconds stormed to a nine-wicket win at home to their Abergele counterparts.

Gele won the toss and elected to bat, setting 102-7 off their 40 overs against a very accurate home attack.

Skipper Chris Hobby and Joe Roberts both made 27 for the visitors.

Marchwiel and Wrexham seconds spread the wickets around, Mike Lee returning the best analysis of 3-18, edging him up to 17 league victims for 2024 and a club best in a season of 20 overall.

Paul Baines claimed a miserly 2-9 off eight overs, while there was a wicket apiece for Zahid Sharif and Jeremy Wilks.

In response, the hosts eased to 103-1 off 24.5 overs, the evergreen Michael Forgrave hitting a season’s finest 50 not out and Nick Husbands 34.

Husbands is up to 445 league runs for the season at an average of 74.17.

Bersham 2nd XI (14) 83-2 Llanrwst 2nd XI (1) 78-10

Bersham seconds ran out comfortable winners by eight wickets over their Conwy Valley visitors.

Llanrwst seconds won the toss, elected to bat, but could only muster 78 all out, Aled Hughes best with 28.

For the hosts, Thushardath Ep snapped up 4-17 and Bibin Sunny 2-9.

The Colliers responded with 83-2 in just 12.4, Aneesh Pattali 33 and Derick Dineshan 21.

Carmel and District 2nd XI (0) 15-10 Ruthin 2nd XI (15) 115-9

Hosts Carmel and District seconds crashed to what must be the lowest total of the season in the North Wales League at home to rampant Ruthin seconds.

The visitors were invited to bat and posted 115-9 off 40 overs, opener Ieuan Wynne Lewis head and shoulders above the rest with 55.

Harry Nash grabbed 4-14 and Shaun Wheeler 2-12 for the home attack.

Carmel’s 15-run reply was eked out over 12.5 overs and included seven ducks.

Ned Roberts snared 5-4 off five, Elliott Lewis 3-4 and Jonas Roberts 2-5 for the overwhelming winners from the Vale of Clwyd.

Corwen 2nd XI (0) 72-10 Hawarden Park 3rd XI (15) 74-1

John Cooper poached an impressive 5-16 as Hawarden Park thirds dismissed nine-man Corwen seconds for just 72, opener John Wildman’s bat-carrying 47 not out saving the hosts from further embarrassment.

The Park hit back with 74-1 to wrap up a 15-0 verdict, Cooper completing a good day with 36 not out, Charlie Salisbury 25.

Llandudno 2nd XI (15) 231-4 Mynydd Isa and Maeshafn (0) 83-10

Tom Bleasdale cracked his third century of the season in an emphatic Llandudno victory at The Oval.

Bleasdale, who had previously made scores of 181 not out and 107 this year, is up to 403 league runs in just four innings and is averaging 201.50.

On Saturday, opener Bleasdale struck 115 not out in Tudno’s total of 231-4 off 40 overs against Mynydd Isa and Maeshafn. He put on 109 for the second wicket with Andrew Christian (39).

Saboor Afghan collected 2-28 for the visitors, who were sent packing in reply for just 83, Tudno’s Shana Kelly 4-31, Stephen Cheung 2-6 and Mike Gwynne 2-7.
